Mazatlan | Mexico Real Estate

Mazatlan pronounced Maz-it-Lawn is located on a flat stretch of land on the northern pacific coast of Mexico. This location is often called the golden coast because of its beautiful sandy beaches. It is the closest Mexico resort destinations to many places in the United States, and easily accessible by air, car, or bus. It is a city of approximately half a million people with beautiful beaches, warm water, and friendly people.

When considering Mexico real estate Mazatlan is one of the top opportunities. For many years it has been over looked in the real estate market providing affordable investments; that will no doubt only increase in value.

This small city has a lot to offer. Even before it became a tourist attraction Mazatlan was famous for its superb fishing. Eight fleets of charter boats bring in approximately 8,000 to 9,000 marlin and sailfish each year! Besides the fishing there are many other water attractions such as surfing, swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing on the beach.

With many local restaurants, water sports, sightseeing activities, and perfect year round temperature Mazatlan is a top candidate for a Mexico second home or investment.

Airlines

Mazatlan is one of the most accessible Mexico resort destinations. From the western side of the United States you can travel there by air, bus, or car. There are many cheap and short flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver with daily service available from several airlines.

The airport (code MZT) is 17 miles southeast of the hotel and resort area of town

Weather

Mazatlan is the most northern major beach resort in Mexico providing cooler temperatures than other Mexican destinations. The temperatures usually range from high 70s to low 80s in the winter months (January through March) with nighttime temperatures in the low 60s. The summer months are a bit hotter, but still cooler than summer temperatures in Miami, Huston, or St. Louis. The wettest month is September.

Beaches

Playa Olas Atlas is a rocky beach on the western edge of downtown. With an extremely beautiful rocky coast and rough surf it is more for sightseeing than swimming.

Playa Norte west of Playa Olas Atlas provides a long stretch of beautiful sandy beach.

Playa Sabalo is one of the best beaches in Mazatlan

Mazatlan is one of the few resort towns in Mexico where surfing is extraordinary and extremely popular on the central town beaches. The best waves can be found at the following beaches:

Los Pinos is probably the most famous and can be found north of the fort. Some other beaches around the area are:

  • El Camaron at Playa Norte

Mazatlan also has a number of movie theaters, a home depot, and a Sam's club.

There are currently no Starbucks in Mazatlan; however, there are many local coffee shops that serve excellent coffee in a warm comfortable environment.

La Zona Dorada is the best area for shopping. With many craft shops and convenient stores you are sure to find what you are looking for.

La Gran Plaza is a large shopping mall just 3 blocks inland from the waterfront on avenida de los Deportes. The plaza has a large supermarket, department stores, and specialty shops. It's open daily from 10am to 9pm.

Restaurants

Angelos

Excellent Italian and Seafood. With homemade pastas and fresh seafood this is one of the best restaurants in Mazatlan. They also have an extensive wine list. Dress code is enforced.

Jungle Juice

This inviting and comfortable outdoor restaurant has both excellent grilled meets and smoothies, as well as a full bar.

Try: any of the grilled meats or lobster and a smoothie.

Location: Las Garzas 101 669/916-5815. Open daily from 8am-10pm with the bar staying open until 2am.

Price: $5-$20

Copa de Leche

This Mexican restaurant is on the waterfront at Playa Olas Altas. With wonderful traditional Mexican food an a spectacular view there this is a must see and try! They also have good breakfast and live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Try: the seafood soup, traditional beef barbecue, or the shrimp in tamarind sauce.

Golf

El Cid Golf & Country Club

This golf course offers 27 holes of golf and has hosted many International golf events. It is uniquely situated on a biological reserve, so keep your eyes open for deer, turtles, fish, exotic birds, and crocodiles.

Estrella del Mar

This 18-hole par 72 is rated among the top golf courses in the Mexico! Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. this course proves challenging and beautiful views with six of its holes along the beach.

Hospitals

Mazatlan has many English trained doctors and several modern hospitals and walk in clinics. The Sharp Hospital is regarded as one of the best hospitals in Mexico. Although Medical coverage does not extend outside of the US at this time most of the costs including medical and hospital bills, prescription medicine and dental care are usually less than the co-payments Americans pay to their insurance companies!
