Playa del Carmen Real Estate

Playa del Carmen is located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea in the northeast part of the Mexican State, Quintana Roo. Playa del Carmen has beautiful beaches amazing scuba diving opportunities, as well as cenote diving. Today Playa del Carmen is considered to be at the center of the Riviera Maya, a large span of Mexico stretching from Cancun to Tulum and the Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve. Quinta Avenida, or referred to as 5th AVE in English is a cobblestone pedestrian street lined with restaurants, shops, bars, and cosmopolitan clubs. Approximately twenty blocks long, Quinta Avenida is one of the most famous places in Playa.

Playa del Carmen is one of the fastest growing towns in the Mexico and South America, by a rate of 26 % per year.  It is easy to see why with its gorgeous beaches, lively people, and amazing Mexico real estate investment opportunities. There are a variety of activities to do in Playa Del Carmen from shopping to scuba diving to doing yoga on the beach. The city is rapidly growing but still has the charm and feel of ancient times as you walk among Mayan Ruins. Playa del Carmen homes, condo & land are still good real estate investments according to recent studies. Shopping malls in Playa Del Carmen include, Plaza Del Pelicano, which is located on 10th Avenue between Calles 6 and 8. This shopping mall also has a movie theater.  Another mall is Paseo del Carmen, which is located over by the ferry pier.

The Grand Plaza business district is being built and will be complete with a Mall of America that includes a home depot, a Cineplex, and other large department stores. Centro Maya is also almost completed which will house a Soriana grocery store, Price club and a Cineplex. The hospital just outside Playacar is also just finishing up.

5th Ave also hosts two McDonalds, a Subway, and two Hagan Diaz ice cream shops.

This restaurant serves a fusion of food but mostly focuses on grilled seafood, sautes and pasta dishes. They also serve good sandwiches that come with a salad for lunch.

The Beach at Playa Del Carmen has golden sand and turquoise waters. It has a few restaurants and hotels behind it and also offers lounge chair service. The water is clear and beautiful.

Playa del Carmen has a small airport that mostly offers trips to Belize, Guatemala, Chitzen Itza or other Mayan ruins.

To get to Playa Del Carmen from the United States you will either have to fly into Cancun or Cozumel.

It’s about a 45-minute drive from Playa del Carmen to the airport in Cancun.

There are two separate ferry companies running ferries back and forth from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. It does not matter which ferry you take. They run about five to ten minutes from each other and offer all of the same comforts (both are air-conditioned), amenities, and refreshments.   However, please note that the Ferry schedule can change due to weather conditions; i.e. high winds or waves.

Purchasing your ticket

There are a number of different places where you can purchase your ticket. There are booths on 5th AVE and more booths at the ferry docks. Ferries are rarely sold out (unless it is the morning ride because of workers going to Cozumel.)

Cost of Living

The cost of living is considerably cheaper in Playa Del Carmen. Most things cost less money than in the United States such as labor, food, and locally manufactured goods. Movie tickets cost on average $3.50 USD, and maid service for six days at six hours a day is paid approximately $80 USD a week. However, imported electronics and automobiles are more expensive in Mexico.

Medical Information

Most of Mexico’s doctors have been trained in the United States or Europe and speak fluent English. Facilities are clean, well maintained, and services cost a fraction of the cost compared to the United States.
